Selected Projects
The Bosque Urbano de Málaga (BUM) is a grassroots movement working to transform the former Repsol industrial site, which is one of the few remaining undeveloped areas in a densely built neighborhood, into a large urban park with ecological and social benefits. The site is located between the Cruz de Humilladero and Carretera de Cádiz districts and is threatened by commercial and housing projects supported by the city council. In response, the BUM platform promotes the creation of a Mediterranean forest composed of native species as an environmentally sustainable, socially beneficial, and climate-resilient solution for a city with limited green spaces.
In an international Workshop, we engaged in both reflection and action regarding the site proposed as a major urban park. We worked in three groups: advocacy, signage, and construction, focusing respectively on communication, visibility, and physical interventions on site as an immediate and necessary response to the needs of the city of Málaga.
One particular focus was on creating visualizations and sparking the imagination of how the area could develop under different scenarios. This approach aimed to spark conversations with residents about their visions for the site, getting them to imagine and express what they hope to see and what they strongly wish to avoid in its future.
Utopia: What if the site is transformed into a public park?
Utopian imaginaries rooted in existing photos, gently transformed with ecological elements and subtle infrastructures.
Dystopia: What if the city proceeds with its plans to build offices and luxury apartments?
The SArPe project brings together a multi-disciplinary consortium of experts from the University of Pavia (Italy), the University of Málaga (Spain), Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), and TU Delft (Netherlands.
