Selected Projects
The shopping mall in Leyweg was once a bustling hub, but today it only comes alive during the Friday market—one of the few remaining spaces of spontaneous encounter.
This project explores how public space can be reimagined to attract a broader range of people and activities throughout the week, while addressing climate challenges like heat stress—without triggering gentrification. The proposal divides the area into two distinct but interdependent zones: one transformed into an active, caring corridor that prioritizes human connection and inclusive use; the other given back to nature, allowing local species to reclaim space and build ecological resilience.
Thermal comfort simulations using ENVI-met and PET indicate that the square currently experiences extreme heat conditions, making it uncomfortable and often unbearable. Following the proposed design intervention, the microclimate is significantly improved, ensuring that the square remains pleasant and comfortable—even during the hottest days of summer.
