Hidden Facesagainst the ‚genius cult‘ in architecture

Who built the Weißenhofsiedlung?

While the settlement is widely associated with a few celebrated (mostly white, male) architects, its creation involved many more individuals—architects, assistants, craftspeople—whose contributions have remained largely invisible in the dominant architectural narrative. Although many of these contributors could not be individually identified, we drew on existing knowledge to honor their roles by developing a digital platform that traces the broader network behind the project. This initiative was accompanied by an on-site sticker intervention, making hidden labor visible and challenging traditional notions of authorship in architecture.
