Urban Code Brusselscollective interfaces, adaptable urban living

Brussels has long struggled with the legacy of “Brusselization”—a period of rapid, often careless urban development that disregarded historical context and social fabric. This project asks: Can we do better now?

Rather than erasing the existing, can we respect it—through small, careful, and strategic interventions that make the urban environment more adaptable to shifting social and ecological needs?

We explore how micro-level transformations can foster moments of encounter, learning, and care. How can we design spaces that support diverse living arrangements, encourage intergenerational interaction, and make room for those typically excluded from dominant housing models?
