Selected Projects
Interstitial spaces—often overlooked and rarely used—hold quiet value. In our exploration of Stadspark West, we focused on these in-between areas: who inhabits them, and why? These spaces, while marginal in planning terms, serve as critical habitats for both biodiversity and people experiencing rooflessness. They exist in tension: unregulated yet essential, vulnerable yet resilient.
This project was part of the Rotterdam Architecture Month 2024, during which we organized a Midsummer Walk through the park to invite others into these overlooked spaces. Together with participants, we explored how these areas are used and imagined, and reflected on their quiet importance within the urban fabric.
The project asks how we might recognize and protect such spaces. Can we create spatial buffers that maintain their ambiguity, allowing them to remain safe, semi-hidden, and alive? Rather than redesigning them entirely, we sought strategies that keep their character intact—valuing them not for what they could become, but for what they already hold.
